27th July 09 - Parkside Sports College win Salter's Festival of Chemistry
A team of four Year 8 pupils from Parkside Sports College have won the prestigious “Salter’s Challenge” at the Salter’s Festival of Chemistry at the University of Durham

The team, comprising Jacob Craig, Craig Mounter, Stacey Parkinson and Rebecca Pinder competed against 17 other schools in the North East, including many private schools, to win this event.

The Salter’s organisation sets an investigation whose resolution requires the use of analytical chemistry. The pupils tested samples of known composition and matched results to those of unknown origin and chemical composition and then drew conclusions from the results obtained.

The team was judged on their performance on aspects of safety, team work, enthusiasm and accuracy of results. The Parkside team were also congratulated on their exemplary work, detailed answers and were highly praised by all judges.
